Description
| - Since February 2003 electronics has been influenced by the RoHS (2002/95/EC) and the WEEE directive in EU and many other countries subsequently. These directives include bans for certain hazardous substances (especially lead) in electronics. This first RoHS directive has mainly affected consumer electronics. The lead-free movement includes solders, electrically conductive adhesives and surface finishes. Cause of a number of substantial changes in this Directive, EU decided to recast the whole directive. On the 8 June 2011 in the Directive 2002/95/EC has been replaced by the 2011/65/EU - the directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. This directive is based on the prevention of waste from electronics especially consumer electronics. It means that the focus is on the conception of new electronics without heavy metals, PBDE and PBB. However the ban of these substances brings a number of challenges especially for high-reliable products as medical devices, and safety-related systems.
