  • In this paper, we propose a new approach for fairing of discrete surfaces. Two criteria, curvature and mesh irregularity, defined on a discrete surface are jointly optimised. A new definition of curvature is proposed, which simplifies the computation. A discrete diffusion of a scalar function is used to avoid surface shrinking. Proposed experiments on synthetic as well as on real data demonstrated method's stability, robustness and ability to preserve qualitative shape (convex/concave/hyperbolic/elliptic). Tests on real datasets from 3D reconstruction task showed the method is suitable for this application and data with boundary and of moderate-size (with more than 0.8M vertices and 1.7M triangles).
