  • In this paper, two methods for solving the traveling salesperson problem are compared: the edge histogram resampling and the ant colony system. The comparison aims at performance, complexity and sensitivity to parameter values. Both methods use a kind of connection matrix as a means for construction of new candidate solutions, however, they use it in different ways. In the empirical study, the methods will be compared based on their performance given a number of well known problems found in TSPLIB. We also provide information on the amount of preliminary testing required before using these methods on new problems, focusing on what parameters the methods are most sensitive to.
