  • Tropospheric refraction effects are discussed here, with an aim at inspecting an influence of change of refractive index profile with distance to a terrestrial millimetre link. When treating refraction effects in the troposphere, usually only height dependence of the refractive index profile is considered. However, this might not always be exactly the real situation. Situation may occur, that electromagnetic wave is exposed to range dependent refractive index height profiles as it propagates. Several examples are presented here with results in terms of received signal strength and angle of arrival. Under certain refractive index distribution the electromagnetic wave can propagate at a long distance, exceeding the optical line-of-sight distance of the terrestrial link and possibly resulting in interference effects.
