  • The relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties is difficult to establish as it represents highly non-linear interactions, but could probably be the easiest way of how to predict the properties of a material without the need of performing complex mechanical tests. This paper discusses the applicability of log-normal mathematical function to the calculation of hardness of materials which microstructure comprises grains with globular and lamellar submicrostructural cells. The calculations are based on the measurements of microstructural features of different structure modifications of double-phase Ti-6Al-4V alloy prepared by the heat treatment. The results show the possibility of calculating nano and micro hardness using the log-normal distribution hypothesis.
