  • This paper deals with complete FEM (finite element method) heat transfer analysis of the cylinder head assembly of the C28 series engine and its cooling system. More specifically the paper analyzes modeling of the temperature fields by FEM and 1D fluid flow in structures with cooling. It brings a brief overview on current heat transfer simulation possibilities and uses FEM as the fundamental approach. Furthermore, the paper includes basic information about weighted residual methods and describes in detail the Petrov-Galerkin method that is used to solve convection/diffusion problems. With the theoretical information, principles and basic methods considered a special model solving the cooling system was created and verified in the FEM software program ABAQUS.
