Description
  • Adhesive joints are increasingly being used due to their mechanical performance and a better understanding of the mechanics of failure. The mechanical properties of bonded joint depend on technology of bonding and mainly on preparation of surfaces of contact areas so it is better to verify data from material sheet with experiment. Real application of the bonded joint is bonding of fixture on the tram roof. Experiment based on standard ČSN EN 14 65 (Determination of Shear Strength in Tension of Rigid Adherends on Lap Joints) was performed and shear modulus of adhesive was calculated. Then program ABAQUS was used to made a model of specimen where the adhesive layer was meshed with cohesive elements. Material properties of cohesive elements were taken from the experiment. In ABAQUS the experiment was also simulated. At the end the values of ultimate strength from experiment were verified with ultimate strength from numerical calculation.
