Description
  • This paper deals on analyses of volume changes during solidification and cooling of magnesium sand castings. It concludes basic theoretical knowledge about solidification and cooling of magnesium castings. Main focus of this paper is on volume changes during solidification. In order to analyze defects in casting, computer simulations and experiment were performed. By comparing results from computer simulations and experiments it was possible to construct tables, which can be considered as a result analyses of defects for magnesium castings. This could be used for designing of new castings to better estimate size of the feeder to ensure required quality of the final product.
