  • Experiments characterized by multi-axial stress states are important for study of material anisotropy. Standard experimental technique frequently performed in arterial mechanics is an inflation-extension test with cylindrical sample. Controlled quantities are usually internal pressure and longitudinal extension/force. However, torsion of inflated sample may be observed in experiments even without an applied torque. This phenomenon can be considered as manifestation of material anisotropy. This study is aimed to evaluation of a torsion observed within inflation and extension of venous coronary artery bypass graft. Small torsions were originally neglected. However, taking into consideration the torsion term in the deformation gradient shows that even small torsions may generate significant shear stresses when unsuitable constitutive model is employed.
