Description
  • In this study, main disposal methods of stillages are technically, energetically and economically compared. Attention is paid to disposal of both solid and liquid phase. Specifically, the following methods are considered: a) livestock feeding, b) combustion of granulated stillages c) adjustment for fertilization d) anaerobic digestion with biogas production and e) chemical pretreatment and following secondary treatment. Other technologies mentioned in the literature (electrofenton reaction, electrocoagulation and reverse osmosis) haven´t been considered due to their high costs and technological difficulties. Resulting sequence of economical convenience: 1. - chemical pretreatment, 2. - combustion of granulated stillages, 3. - transportation of stillages to a biogas station, 4. - composting of stillages and use of it for fertilization, 5. - livestock feeding.
