Description
(cs)
  • New design possibilities, better performance and weight lightening lead to the choice of plastics for use as car components. This is the case of car rear lights, where engineering thermoplastics has been used as a substitute for conventional materials like glass or aluminium. Mechanical recycling of these components is, however, problematic. Rear lights comprise of two main parts: housing (PC, ABS, and PC/ABS) and transparent cover (PMMA). The cover is welded with the housing. This leads to the problem of separation of each polymer or dealing with their mixture. The second case was considered in our work. Original (virgin) and recycled polymers used in production of car rear lights were injection moulded into model blends of PC/ABS, ABS/PMMA, PC/PMMA and PC/ABS/PMMA. Blend composition was varied for each binary blend.
