Description	In this paper, basic overview of current applications of intelligent and adaptive systems in medicine is presented. These systems can help us to cope with the enormous amount of information available in the networked world and the enormous amount of data collected daily with the modern medical equipment. These topics were discussed at the international workshop Intelligent and Adaptive Systems in Medicine held in Prague at the Department of Cybernetics CTU FEE, March 31 - April 1, 2003. The trends indicated from the presentations suggest that most modern artificial intelligence techniques are being gradually assimilated into biomedicine. However, most of the results have been achieved in isolated research teams working in many countries and not in coordinated international research.
