Description
  • Testing machine for tensile tests of materials could by upgraded by using a special jig for torsional or combination torsion/bending tests of the specimens. If the testing machine contains built-in pulsator, special jig allows fatigue test in torsion as well as fatigue test in torsion in combination with bending. Stator of the jig prototype is mounted on the cross beam of the testing machine. Shaft rotating in bearings loads mandrel of the testing machine perpendiculary and eccentrically to its axis. Eccentricity is relatively small and loads specimens by a force couple. Moment of the force couple can be adjusted by the position of the jig. If the parameters of the welded joint are tested, the moment is transformed to bending and torsional one according to position of the weld. Variation in position and shape of tested constructions allows to test wide range of load moments acting on the construction, since normal forces and resisting shears could be eliminated (in an ideal case).
