Description
  • Algae are organisms that required light, humidity and low concentration of minerals. They are occurred common in places, which are accessible to light and on the other hand, are protected against direct sunlight and therefore there are keep natural moisture. Their metabolic activity causes degradation of surface of building stone and structures, consisting primarily of mechanical damage and increase the porosity by leaching calcium. Nanofiber textiles were prepared electrospinning on the Nanospider LB 500, we are used cylindrical electrodes with a length of 600 mm, electrode distance was about 140 mm, a temperature around 28 °C and a relative humidity of around 35 %. The basic spinning solution had the following composition: 60 % polyvinyl alcohol, 4.4 % phosphoric acid and 2.25 % of Glyoxal with the addition of up to 1 % of the potential biocide agents. The obtained nanofiber textiles had a specific weight between 2 and 4 g/m2. The algicidal assays were performed on deficient solid Bold's Basal Medium (BBM) [1]. The entire surface was covered with algae, which are commonly occurring in the consortium with bacteria. The sample is placed the middle, it has a circular sample with dimensions of 20 mm. It cultivated in the light at laboratory conditions. Algicidal effect was evaluated as resulting halo around the sample. The PVA sample not produce any halo effect, the samples prepared with the addition of metal salt (AgNO3, CuSO4*5H2O) showed a halo effect, which was dependent on the concentration used in addition, ranging from 0.3-2 mm. Size halo effect is dependent on the relative humidity and length of exposure.
