Description
  • In modern design of structures such as bridges, airports and railway terminals, sport stadiums and other civil structures, tension components are used more and more often. These components are exposed to climatic conditions, especially to dynamic wind load, which may cause vibrations. Therefore, further investigation of this phenomenon and the circumstances of its occurrence is needed. It depends on many internal and external properties of the structure. The principal factors influencing the eigenvalues are diameter and a length of a member, an internal force and a given order of natural frequency. Natural frequencies of stays can be determined using dynamic analysis or using various published equations. Natural frequencies also depend on assumption of restraining boundary conditions; hinges at the ends of tension members or fixed ends. Members used on bridges are additionally subjected to effects of cyclic traffic loads. Both dynamic wind load and traffic loading are major factors causing high-cycle fatigue of civil engineering structures. At this time, no global research in area of tension bar systems is being conducted. The experimental measuring on the in-situ stays of Troja arch Bridge is in underway. Strain gauges and accelerometers have been fixed to selected bars to measure acceleration and stresses in the stays. The aim of the experiment is to get a representative sample of measurement for determination behaviour and boundary restraining conditions of these stays, made from tension bar systems. Uncertainty exists in the accuracy of the value of logarithmic decrement of the damping. Currently it is possible to obtain values for cables but not as easy for tension bar systems.
