  • This paper is focused on in-situ testing of FBG (Fiber Bragg Gratings) sensors which are used in borehole extensometers, and other fiber optics deformation measurement instruments developed within a R&D project. The properties of „raw“ optical fibers with FBGs and FBG deformation sensors have been examined on a newly designed test beam. It is one „IPE“ (double T) steel beam with consoles, where the FBG sensors can be fixed. The deformations are induced by controlled mechanical displacement of consoles and/or by temperature changes of the steel beam caused by heating with precise regulation. The in-situ tests are carried out in the Josef Underground Laboratory of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU in Prague. Following issues will be described and discussed: design of the test beam, independent doubled deformation measurement, high accuracy temperature regulation of the steel beam, selected results of test measurements gathered with a new FBG interrogator of our own development.
