Description
  • The paper deals with the problems of multi-criterion assessment of level intersections in urban areas. The selection of an intersection is presently very frequently led by the investor's preference for a specific solution aimed e.g. at the minimization of construction costs; doing so it may relatively often happen that the suggested solution is far from the ideal one. By means of a suitably applied multi-criterion assessment, based on the technical parameters of individual types of intersections and their impact on their surroundings, the most suitable solution may be defined, including the quantification of indirect costs for the whole service life of the intersection. The presumed advantage of the methodology consists in its universal concept and applicability as the methodology is designed as an open system allowing potential modifications of individual criteria, weights and prices. In the first part of the paper, the basic criteria to be assessed are defined, including the determination of their significance level and the definition of their impacts on the assessment as a whole. Using the selected methodologies and preliminarily proposed weights of individual criteria, the second part presents an experimental in-situ assessment of a real intersection. The chosen intersection was monitored by traffic surveys and measurements to specify its building parameters and also the existing traffic volumes. This particular intersection was subsequently modelled in the Aimsun software to define its capacity limit. The same modelling-based procedure was also applied for individual alternatives of the new layout of the solved intersection to allow the specification of the intersection type effect on its capacity. The achieved results will serve for the determination of a suitable multi-criterion assessment methodology, and also for the relevant model gauging, i.e. evaluation of individual criteria and the determination of their respective weights.
