Description
  • A complex system of equipment and devices for evaluation of stresses in the structural elementsof cable-membrane structures with an accuracy within 5% has been created. A device for determination of the force in the anchorage cable of the membrane has been created. The value of the axial force is evaluated based on the relationship between the axial load, the transversal deflection and the corresponding force. This relationship is also influenced by the stiffness of the investigated cable and the stiffness of the connection between the cable and the membrane. The second order theory is used for nondestructive measurement. If the cable is considered as perfectly flexible, then the axial force can be calculated from the measured transverse displacements and the corresponding force. Further, the device for determination of the force in the membrane has been developed. This device demarcates the area on the membrane. The value of the membrane loading is evaluated based on the relationship between it and the natural frequency of the demarcated area. The stresses in the membrane are usually not the same in different directions. The arrangement of the device is designed to take this influence into account. For testing of the above mentioned devices and for getting the calibration relations for commonly made types of cables and membranes, a calibration device has been designed and made. The forces in cables and the stresses in membranes in two perpendicular directions are continually measured during experiments using this device. The data obtained from the equipment developed in the experimental part of the project is used for the verification of computational models of cable-membrane structures. A comparison is made between the results from the computational models, those from experiments carried out on simple membrane structures in the laboratory and those from real structures in situ.
