Description
  • The prestressed free cantilever method represents the most frequent and the most popular process for erection of long span prestressed concrete bridges. Several changes of structural system during the construction process are inevitable when applying such a method, which results in very significant time variations in moments and shear and axial forces distributions due to creep and shrinkage of concrete. In contradiction to straight bridges, the flexural and torsion effects are strongly coupled together in the case of horizontally curved bridges. This is why it is certainly impossible to assess the significance of the torsion effects by simply extrapolating the results obtained for straight structures. The intention of this paper is to develop an analytical method for evaluating the effects of changes of structural system of horizontally curved bridges.
