Description
  • In slurry transportation practice, pipelines sometimes operate at flow velocities that are not high enough to maintain all transported solid particles in motion. As a result, a stationary bed develops at the bottom of a pipe. Very little research has been done on this type of flow. Models available for a prediction of the energy loss in a slurry pipe assume no-deposit condition and very often fail to predict the loss correctly at low velocities, i.e. at velocities below the deposition threshold. Recently, the author proposed a predictive model for the frictional pressure drop in stratified flows with stationary deposits in slurry pipes. This paper refines the model further and discusses its practical use for pipe flows of stratified slurries at low velocities.
