Description	Silicate protecting layers are relatively cheap and effective means against water penetration during the whole service life of concrete structures. In the surface layer of concrete water-proof layer up to several mm thick is formed. The protection is based on the formation of hydrated calcium silicates inside pores and cracks in concrete. The protection is activated in the presence of moisture. In this paper, basic water and water vapour transport and storage properties of fine grained concrete provided by silicate protecting layers are analyzed and compared with the properties of the same concrete without any protection. (en) Silikátové ochranné vrstvy jsou relativně levným a efektivním prostředkem pro ochranu betonových konstrukcí proti pronikání vody během celé doby jejich životnosti. V povrchové vrstvě se vytvoří vodotěsná ochrana silná několik mm. Ochranná funkce je založena na vytvoření hydratovaných křemičitanů vápenatých uvnitř pórů a trhlin v betonu a je aktivována v přítomnosti vody. V tomto článku jsou prezentovány základní transportní a akumulační parametry jemnozrnného betonu se silikátovou ochrannou vrstvou a porovnány s vlastnostmi téhož betonu bez ochrany. (cs)
