| - The paper deals with the interaction of the environment, human activity and the problems of dam safety in relation to extreme climatic phenomena. At the time of extreme climatic phenomena, the environment, hydraulic structures and human activity are under greater strain than under standard (risk-free) hydraulic conditions and water flows. The protection of the environment and human activity during a period of higher water levels depends on a lot of factors one of the most significant of them being dam safety. This, in turn, depends, to a large extent, on the function of the facilities diverting the flood wave below the dam. The worldwide development of the last decades has brought a considerable rise in the requirements for the safety of the territory below hydraulic structures. For small and medium-size embankment dams, lateral spillways were and have been designed in the majority of cases in the Czech Republic.

- Příspěvek se zabývá interakcí životního prostředí, lidskou činností a problematikou bezpečnosti přehrad z hlediska extrémních klimatických jevů. V období extrémních klimatických jevů jsou životní prostředí, vodní dílo i lidská činnost namáhány více než při normálních (bezrizikových) vodních stavech a průtocích. Ochrana životního prostředí a lidské činnosti v období zvýšených vodních stavech závisí na mnoha faktorech, přičemž jedním významných faktorem je bezpečnost přehrady. Ta závisí velkou měrou na funkci zařízení převádějící povodňovou vlnu pod přehradu. Vývoj v posledních desetiletích celosvětově přinesl výrazné zvýšení požadavků na bezpečnost území pod vodními díly. U malých a středních sypaných hrází v České republice se ve většině případů navrhoval a navrhuje boční přeliv. (cs)
