Description
(cs)
  • Advancement of cadmium in a structured soil during high-intensity rainfall is evaluated. The Chernozem soil with biopores at Macov experimental field station (Slovakia) was examined both in the laboratory and in situ. The field infiltration experiments accompanied by dye tracer test have revealed significant preferential flow patterns. Therefore, a numerical model which is capable of solving the water movement and solute transport through network of macropores had to be used. The cadmium penetration was simulated by a dual-permeability model, which assumes the existence of two communicating domains: domain of the soil matrix and the preferential flow domain. The presented dual-permeability model is based on Richards' equation for water flow and convection-dispersion equation for solute transport. The results, provided by the dual-permeability approach, predict the cadmium residua substantially below the root zone after a storm episode.
