Description
  • The potential of the plasticityparadigm is explored to assess the anisotropy induced in an originally isotropic material in the course of a directional tension degradation. The degradation manifests itself as cracking. The maximum dissipation principle is recalled in this context. A particular model is presented in which the anisotropy is defined by means of the residual strength tensor. Rankine yield locus is adopted. Consistent normal is derived to the yield locus that rotates with the rotating principal axes of the current stress tensor. The normal does not coincide with static normal to the yield locus in the Westergaard space. The strain localization phenomenon is not addressed although it is properly treated in the computer code and silently usedin the analytical solution. The performance of the model is shown in an elementary homogeneous academic solution with a prescribed tortuous strain history and in a benchmark wedge splitting test
