  • The neutron transmission radiography can serve as complementary diagnostic method to the X-ray radiography. It can produce contrast images of materials, which are indistinguishable in X-ray images. Good performance of a neutron detecting device is essential for the acquisition of high quality neutron images. Slow neutrons are captured and converted in a thin layer containing Li-6 to tritons and alpha particles which are subsequently detected by a silicon pixel detector Medipix-2. The detector performance was tested at the NEUTRA station of the Paul Scherrer Institute using a beam of slow neutrons. The spatial resolution, detection efficiency and other detector properties were determined and compared with several types of contemporary neutron imaging systems. The results demonstrate superior state of the Medipix-2 based neutron imager in terms of the spatial resolution, linearity and dynamic range. The system is very promising in applications for micro-neutron tomography

  • Neutronová transmisní radiografie může být brána jako komplementární diagnostickou metoda k rentgenografii. Je schopna vytvářet kontrastní obrázky materiálů, které jsou jinak nerozlišitelné na rentgenogramech. Dobrá účinnost zařízení, detekujícího neutrony, je nezbytným předpokladem pro opravdu kvalitní neutronogramy. Pomalé neutrony jsou zachyceny v tenké vrstvě obsahující Li-6 a konvertovány na tritony a alfa částice, které jsou následně detekovány křemíkovým pixelovým detektorem Medipix-2. Chování detektoru bylo testováno na NEUTRA stanici v Paul Scherrer Institutu při použití svazku pomalých neutronů. Prostorové rozlišení, detekční účinnost a další vlastnosti detektoru byly porovnány s několika typy současných systémů zobrazujících neutrony. S ohledem na prostorové rozlišení, linearitu a dynamický rozsah ukázaly výsledky mimořádné vlastnosti zobrazovacího systému postaveném na detektoru Medipix-2. Systém je velmi slibný pro aplikaci na mikro-neutronovou tomografii (cs)
