Description
  • In this paper, we present three diverse periodic nanoantenna array types produced by combining self-assembly of polystyrene (PS) microspheres, gold sputter coating, and plasma treatment. Pulsed linear-antenna microwave plasma (PLAMWP) etching [5] generates long necks connecting the etched microspheres, resulting in a “ball-and-stick (b-and-s) structure. Reactive ion etching (RIE) is utilized to create corrugated non-close-packed anisotropic structures called nanocorals [6], and also to quickly and thoroughly remove PS from the inside of gold semishells, which is impossible to achieve by dissolution alone. The prepared plasmonic arrays illustrate the versatility of the presented technique and its capability to control the nanoantenna dimensions with the precision comparable to (or even better than) the costly top-down approaches.
