Description
  • In support of an ongoing development effort for the COIL/DOIL, the alternative methods of atomic iodine generation have been explored to improve the laser efficiency and simplify its operation. This article addresses the development of a novel plasmachemical method of atomic iodine generation from iodine donor compounds, e.g. CH3I and CF3I. The radio frequency discharge dissociates these molecules introduced in a gas or vapor form in mixture with a buffer gas (He, Ar) into the RF discharge chamber. Experimental results on measurements of atomic iodine concentration distribution along and across the flow field by means of the special diode probe laser diagnostics at the wavelength of 1315 nm are presented.
