Description
(cs)
  • New series of materials with the chiral part derived from the lactic acid and possessing the methoxy group as a lateral substituent in different positions of the molecular core have been synthesized and studied. A variant with the ester or ether linkage of the non-chiral chain is also checked. Depending on the molecule structure, the cholesteric, TGBA*, SmA* and SmC* phases have been detected. In variants with the ester linkage and methoxy substitution at the nearest and the next nearest phenyl ring to the non-chiral chain these phases completely disappears. On the other hand the substitution on the phenyl ring close to the chiral chain provides a compound with low layer shrinkage at the SmA*-SmC* phase transition (%22de Vries%22 behaviour). Temperature dependences of the spontaneous polarization, the spontaneous tilt angle, the layer spacing values as well as the complex dielectric permittivity have been studied and obtained results are discussed in relation to the molecular structure.
