  • The present study is directed towards finding the preferential growth direction of crystals in the speciments of Fe-28 at.%Al-4 at.%Cr treated by the floating-zone technique with optical heating. The evolution of large crystals from statistically well-defined polycrystals during the transfer of the molten zone through the material was followed from the point of view of their orientations. it is shown that surviving crystals have growing directions close to <531>. The direction of preferred growth was surprisingly found to be non/crystallographic. The crzstals with this direction not only grow most frequently but even they are able to nucleat during the growth process

  • Předkládaná studie si vzala za cíl nalézt preferenční směry růstu v krystalech slitiny Fe-28 at.%Al-4 at.%Cr pěstovaných metodou zonální tavby s optickým ohřevem. Vývoj velkých krystalů ze statisticky dobře definovaného polykrystalu byl studován z hlediska jejich orientace při průchodu roztavené zóny napříč materiálem. Bylo zjištěno, že rostou krystaly se směrem růstu <531>. Překvapivě bylo zjištěno, že preferovaný směr je nekrystalografický. Krystaly s touto orientací nejen rostou nejaktivněji, ale mohou též nukleovat v průběhu růstového procesu (cs)
