  • When studying non-transferrin-bound iron (NTBI) uptake by mammalian cells in the high-affinity range (micromolar and below), employment of strong chelators such as NTA can lead to kinetic artifacts due to inhibition by excess chelator. This can be avoided by using citrate at an excess concentration above as a little as1,5-fold over iron without danger of precipitation if balanced culture media are used as incubation mediumfor NTBI uptake.
