Description	A century ago the first retrovirus, Rous sarcoma virus, was discovered and described. In recognition of Czech retrovirology, which significantly contributed to the development of basic knowledge and concepts in the field using the model of avian leukosis and sarcoma viruses, the organization of the conference celebrating 100 years of retrovirology was assigned to the researchers of the Laboratory of Viral and Cellular Genetics IMG AS CR. In its particular sections the conference covered all hot topics of retrovirology, namely, factors restricting retroviral infection, receptor for virus entry into the host cell, regulation of retroviral infection, retroviral vectors, and anti-retroviral therapy. The conference hosted ca 250 participants including students, and ca 40 invited lecturers. Participation of most renowned specialists was funded by NIH grant R13AI084343-01.
