| - CA IX is a transmembrane protein with two extracellular domains: carbonic anhydrase (CA) with a high catalytic activity, and a proteoglycan-like segment (PG) mediating cell-cell adhesion. Both CA and PG domains interact with the microenvironment and they could play a role in tumorigenesis. The present work characterizes some newly recognized properties of the PG. One of them is a prevalently negative charge, caused by a high proportion of dicarboxylic amino acids. This is reflected by easy dissociation of complexes formed by PG with the cell surface receptor already at slightly acidic pH. This property might facilitate separation of cells from the primary tumor. Released cells may start metastatic growth.

- CA IX je transmembránový protein se dvěma extracelulárními doménami: karbonickou anhydrasou (CA), která vykazuje vysokou katalytickou aktivitu, a segmentem podobným proteoglykanům (PG), který zprostředkuje vzájemnou adhesi buněk. Obě domény interagují s mikroprostředím a mohou se uplatňovat ve vzniku nádorů. Současná práce charakterizuje některé nově zjištěné vlastnosti PG. Jednou z nich je převážně negativní náboj, způsobený vysokým obsahem dikarboxylických aminokyselin. Následkem toho je snadná disociace komplexu vytvořených mezi PG a buněčnými povrchovými receptory již při nepatrně sníženém pH. Tato vlastnost může usnadnit oddělení buněk z primárního nádoru. Uvolněné buňky pak mohou dát vznik metastázám. (cs)
