| - From 1966 to 1969 17 chimpanzees wild born in West Africa were introduced onto Rubondo Island. Despite the unfavorable conditions and lack of planning for the release, chimpanzees survived and adapted to this entirely novel environment. In 2008, the population was estimated at around 35+ individuals. An important factor for sustaining the introduced chimpanzees was the accessibility to abundant and high quality foods year round, including liana fruits with aseasonal fruiting patterns. The home ranges of these chimpanzees are larger than estimated for any other forest dwelling chimpanzee study site. Seasonal range size increases in relation to increases in the amount of preferred or overall tree fruit availability. The parasite spectrum of chimpanzees is comparable to other chimpanzee sites, but prevalence rates are different. 3 nematode species new for chimpanzees were found. This is the first study of its kind to document the long-term outcome of chimpanzee introduction into the wild.

- Od roku 1966 do roku 1969 bylo na ostrov Rubondo vysazeno 17 šimpanzů narozených ve volné přírodě v západní Africe. Navzdory nevhodným podmínkám a nedostatečnému plánování během vypouštění, šimpanzi přežili a zcela se v novém prostředí adaptovali. V roce 2008 byla velikost populace odhadnota na 35 a více jedinců. Důležitým faktorem pro úspěšnou introdukci šimpanzů byl dostatek vysoce kvalitní dostupné potravy během celého roku, včetně plodu lian s asezonním dozráváním. Domovské okrsky těchto šimpanzů jsou mnohem větší než u jiných šimpanzů žijících v lesích. Sezonní domovské okrsky vzrůstají v souvislosti s větší dostupností preferovaného či veškerého ovoce. Spektrum parazitů u těchto šimpanzů je srovnatelné s ostatními populacemi šimpanzů, ale prevalence se liší. 3 nalezené druhy hlístic byly poprvé zaznamenány pro šimpanze.
