Description
  • The Silver crucian carp (Carassius auratus) is considered an alien invasive species in the Czech Republic, having immigrated it from the Danube around 1976. C. auratus has become thoroughly naturalised and produced numerous stable populations. The initial populations that occupied the new range consisted of triploid females only. After 1990 the initial unisexual female (triploid) populations began transforming into mixed ones, consisting of both females and males. At present, diploid individuals predominate among the males, with triploid ones occurring occasionally. Among the females, triploid individuals and less frequent diploid ones predominate, while tetraploid ones are found quite rarely. The mixed populations reproduce both gynogenetically and sexually. The native species, C. carassius and T. tinca, previously abundant, vanished from localities by C. auratus. From the natural habitats, C. auratus is the registered bags 25-50 tonnes annually.

U samců v současnosti převládají jedinci diploidní, ojediněle se vyskytují triploidi, u samic převažují jedinci triploidní a v menší míře jedinci diploidní. (cs)
