Description
Hybridizace sp vytváří řetězovité, sp2 rovinné a sp3 tetrahedrální struktury. (cs)
  • Carbon is unique as a building block of different materials as concern their properties as well as the structure. This is related to the many possible configurations of its electronics states, which is known as the hybridization of atomic orbitals. The sp bonding gives rise to chain structure, sp2 bonding to planar structures and sp3 bonding to tetrahedral structures. The structural variety of carbon-based materials is demonstrated here by the study of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) - rolled graphene sp2 sheets and micro- and nanocrystalline diamond sp3 films. The CNTs, a very new material, find many potential applications in nanoelectronics, composites, sensors, microscopy, field emission and other fields Microcrystalline diamond finds several applications mainly due to its high hardnessbut also in association with cold emission cathodes due to its negative electron affinity.
