  • Cylindrical specimens of 316L austenitic stainless steel in as-received condition and with surface carbonitriding by plasma immersion ion implantation were cyclically strained under plastic strain control. Micro-hardness depth profile of hardened surface layer was measured. Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to study the phase composition of the treated layer. Stress-strain response and fatigue life data of both materials were obtained. Surface relief and fracture surface were examined to study fatigue damage mechanisms. Two domains separated by the transitional plastic strain amplitude could be distinguished in fatigue behaviour of the treated steel. In the low amplitude domain, the main crack originates in subsurface region resulting in the prolonged lifetime. The main crack initiates at the surface in the high amplitude domain and the fatigue life of the treated steel is reduced compared to the untreated one.

  • Válcové vzorky austenitické nerezavějící oceli v dodaném stavu a po povrchové karbonitridaci plazmovou imerzní iontovou implantací byly cyklicky zatěžovány při řízení plastické deformace. Byl měřen profil mikrotvrdosti povrchově zpevněné vrstvy. Mössbaurova spektroskopie a rtg difrakce byly použity ke studiu fázového složení upravené povrchové vrstvy. Byly získány údaje o napěťově-deformační odezvě a únavové životnosti obou materiálů. Pro studium mechanismu únavového poškození byl sledován povrchový reliéf a lomová plocha. Únavové chování upravené oceli lze rozdělit do dvou oblastí oddělených přechodovou hodnotou amplitudy plastické deformace. Podpovrchová iniciace hlavní trhliny v oblasti nízkých amplitud má za následek prodloužení životnosti. V oblasti vysokých amplitud vzniká hlavní trhlina na povrchu a únavová životnost upravené oceli je snížena v porovnání s neupravenou ocelí. (cs)
