Description
| - CM186 LC DS is well established as a first stage Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) blade material and has been adopted by leading IGT manufacturers due to significant grain boundary tolerance and cost benefits. To increase the temperature capability, single crystal (SX) casting practices have been applied. The composition and heat treatment are identical to those of the DS variant meaning that the cost savings remain. The following paper characterises the Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) properties of CM186LC SX, and considers the effects of orientation, temperature, strain rate and mean stress on the cyclic stress-strain and strain-life characteristics. The impact of LCF and creep loading interactions has also been studied by applying tensile and compressive dwell periods during the fatigue cycle. Fractographic and microstructural analysis of as-received and fatigued specimens has been conducted.
