Description	In dem vorliegenden Aufsatz mache ich es mir nicht zur Aufgabe, den gesamten %22ketzerischen%22 Nachlaß Jan Patočkas erschöpfend zu behandeln. Ich möchte nur versuchen, seine wesentlichen Kerngedanken klar zu machen. Was ließ, Patočka zufolge, Europa erst zum eigentlichen Europa werden, und worin besteht das Erbe Europas, das es der Welt mit dem, wie Patočka auch konstatiert, eigenen, sich mit den zwei Weltkriegen beschließenden Untergang hinterlassen hat? Was sollte Europa von sich selbst bewahren, wenn es, wie es heute scheint, wieder ein respektabler Akteur im allgemeinen Weltgeschehen sein will? Gibt es etwas, was die globalisierte Welt vom alten Europa übernehmen sollte, bzw. was sollte sie vermeiden, wenn sie nicht will, daß die Geschichte ein Ende findet und sich der totale Verfall einstellt? Tato studie si neklade za cíl pojednat vyčerpávajícím způsobem celé Patočkovo %22kacířské%22 pojetí dějin. Chce se jen pokusit o ujasnění jeho hlavních myšlenek. Co podle Patočky učinilo Evropu Evropou a v čem spočívá dědictví, které Evropa zanechává světu poté, co se, rovněž podle Patočky, ve dvou světových válkách totálně vyřídila? Co by si měla Evropa uchovat, chce-li, jak se dnes zdá, být opět respektovaným účastníkem světového dění? Je něco, co by měl globalizovaný svět od Evropy převzít, nebo čeho by se měl z jejího dědictví vyvarovat, nechce-li aby dějiny opravdu definitivně skončily a nastal naprostý úpadek? (cs) In this piece I am not undertaking to give a full discussion of the whole of Patočka's 'heretical' work. I wish only to make clear its most essential core. What, in Patočka's view, made Europe Europe and what is Europe's legacy left for the world after what Patočka describes as Europe's fall, completed by the two world wars? What should Europe look to conserve if—as seems likely—it would like once again to play a respected role in the world? Is there something that the globalised world should take over from the old Europe, or something that it should eschew, if it does not want to cause the total end of history and the utter decadence of the humankind?
