Description
(cs)
  • In patchy-distributed plants with persistent soil seed bank, vacated patch can be (re)colonized by means of diaspores spreading from neihgboring populations, and/or by seeds from the soil. If the latter source is more important for (re)colonisation, then spatial configulation of patches is of little importance. I analysed turnover dynamics of 5 annual species growing on ant-mounds over three years. Based on the knowledge of dispersal and seed survival capacity, I assesed the importance of each seed source for population (re)colonization. Seeds persisting in the soil were determined in the simulation to be much more important than seeds spreading from other populations. Nevertheless, analysis of observed turnover pattern clearly proved significance of spatial configuration and thus also importance of seeds spreading from neighhboring populations. Discrepancy between expected and observed pattern is discussed.
