Description
Podle morfologie hybridní tetraploidní rostliny měly průměrnou velikost genomu rovnou součtu dvou haploidních chromozomových sad H. pilosella a dvou sad H. praealtum. To naznačuje jejich vznik spojením dvou redukovaných gamet. Velikost genomu častějších pentaploidních hybridů odpovídala součtu čtyř sad H. pilosella a jedné sady H. praealtum. (cs)
  • Interspecific hybridization between Hieracium pilosella and H. praealtum (Asteraceae) was detected in introduced populations in New Zealand. Both parental species and hybrids occure there as tetraploids (2n = 36) and pentaploids (2n = 45). The difference about 22% in haploid DNA content between parental species enables the detection of hybrids and estimation of their genome composition by flow cytometry. Tetraploid putative hybrids (according to morphology) had mean genome sizes equivalent to two H. pilosella and two H. praealtum monoploid chromosome sets. This suggests their origin from the fertilization of two reduced gametes. The genome size of more common pentaploid hybrids corresponded to four H. pilosella and one H. praealtum sets. These are probably products of backcrosses with H. pilosella and/or of hybrid-hybrid crosses. In spite of predominant apomictic reproduction in both parental taxa and hybrids, the residual sexuality can provide opportunity for interspecific gene flow.
