Description	Melatonin was shown to reduce blood pressure and oxidative load as well as to increase nitric oxide availability. It was investigated whether melatonin can reverse left ventricular remodeling in spontaneously hypertensive rats and to compare its protective effect with captopril, spironolactone, or simvastatin. It is concluded that although melatonin, in comparison with captopril, did not reverse left ventricle hypertrophy, it reversed left ventricular fibrosis due to its prominent antioxidative effect Melatonin was shown to reduce blood pressure and oxidative load as well as to increase nitric oxide availability.
