  • Requirements of grid users on computing resources make system administrators decide which configuration should be supported by which computing nodes, which nodes should be dedicated to specific groups of users, etc. This may lead to serious waste of computing power and reduced flexibility. We introduce Magrathea---a system for integrating METACenter resources with EGEE infrastructure using virtualization. Usage scenarios may include, e.g., preemptive job execution, starting job in a requested operating system etc. We also provide a description of common issues connected with virtualization on clusters and a prototype implementation to prove the concept.
