| - Cílem projektu Liberouter je zdokonalení populární platformy směrovačů PC/Un*x ve třech oblastech: * výkon * konzistentní rozhraní pro konfiguraci a správu * směrovací démony Nepřímo chceme též zkoumat potenciál moderního programovatelného hardwaru pro výzkum v oblasti sítí. Pokud jde o výkon, vyvinuli jsme modulární sadu COMBO specializovaných hardwarových karet, sestávající v současnosti z hlavní desky COMBO6 a několika alternativních karet rozhraní: 4xGE (metalické porty nebo SFP) a 2x10GE (XFP). Funkce směrovače, které jsou z hlediska výkonu kritické, se postupně implementují jako firmware karet COMBO. Současná verze karty COMBO6 je navržena pro sběrnici PCI, verze pro PCI-X a Express PCI jsou ve vývoji. Konfigurační systém Netopeer je navržen jako univerzální konfigurační rozhraní jak pro směrovače PC, tak i ostatní platformy směrovačů (Cisco IOS, JUNOS) a zahrnuje systém řízení verzí. - The aim of the Liberouter project is to improve the popular PC/Un*x router platform in three areas: * performance * consistent configuration and management interface * routing daemons Indirectly, we also want to investigate the potential of modern programmable hardware for networking research. The performance issue has been addressed by the development of a modular set of specialised hardware cards known as the COMBO family consisting currently of COMBO6 motherboard and several alternative interface cards: 4xGE (metallic or SFP) and 2x10GE (XFP). Performance-critical functions of the IPv6/IPv4 router data plane are being implemented as firmware for COMBO cards. The current version of COMBO6 is designed for the standard PCI bus, PCI-X and Express PCI versions are under development.
