Description	The paper focuses on the possibilities of participatory visual techniques in research of the contemporary family. We chose the technique of Participatory Video, as it is based on integrating a group or community in shaping and creating their own film on a subject that interests them. It is used as a very effective tool to engage and mobilize marginalized groups and individuals, and helps establish their own forms of sustainable development based on local needs. As a research technique allows insight into the environment, where the researcher is getting difficult. The example of the Czech community living in Portugal Faro verify not only the possibility of using this technique when learning mixed Czech-Por tuguese families, but also its limits and risks.
