Description	The spreading globalization offers more opportunities but also requires new competences from current technical university graduates. Now it is the time we worked together, solved problems together, and together brought the world a little closer. That must be a contribution of engineering education towards the IT society. The paper deals with the process of developing international engineering competences, defines and discusses the key ones which are required from current technical university graduates in the Czech Republic. These include both general and professional competences. The ability to work in international teams and communicate with other members in foreign languages is crucial and belongs to general key competences, not only in the tertiary education. This topic relates to the whole system of engineering education, so that the graduates are able to succeed on the labour market, win professional recognition, and thus contribute to further development.
