  • The aim of this study was the optimization of the Solid Phase Micro-extraction (SPME) method and the optimization of gas chromatography using an electron capture detector method. %22Head-space%22 (HS-SPME) is used for the extraction of volatile compounds from a sample. In our case, the sample matrix was water. The analytical procedure involves derivatization of ionic mercury with sodium tetraethylborate in a sample vial and following extraction with a silica polydimethylsiloxane coated fibre. Standard methylmercury was used for the optimization of the SPME method. The fibre, extraction time, temperature and pH, were optimized for the extraction method by HS-SPME.
