Description
  • Tularemia is a re-emerging zoonosis of natural nidality maintained by small mammalian species, in particular. By means of experimental infection we compared the susceptibility of the house mouse (Mus musculus), common vole (Microtus arvalis), yellow-necked field mouse (Apodemus flavicollis) and European brown hare (Lepus europaeus ) to the infection by F. tularensis. Experimental animals were inoculated by intraperitoneal (i.p.) and subcutaneous (s.c.) injection of 300 bacterial cells in the house mouse, common vole and yellow-necked field mouse and by subcutaneous injection of 104 and 105 bacterial cells in the European brown hare and studied regarding the survival time and course of infection, haematological and biochemical parameters, in particular. The mean survival after i.p. infection in the house mouse, common vole and yellow-necked field mouse was 4.4, 6 and 4 days, respectively. The mean survival after s.c. infection in the house mouse and common vole was 4.6 and 7.4 days, respectively. Whi

(cs)
