Description
| - Culture of various samples of tissues and organs of game ungulates killed resulted in the isolation of 21 (3.8%) strains of mycobacteria. In the red deer (Cervus elaphus), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), and wild boar (Sus scrofa) the numbers of isolated strains amounted to 5, 2, and 14, respectively. Mycobacterial strains were isolated from the gastrointestinal tract content only. Isolations of mycobacteria from parenchymatous organs, lymphnodes and the intestinal wall both of the small and large intestines were not successful. Following typing, all the isolated strains were classified as non-pathogenic, the so-called atypical mycobacteria, with M. terrae (13 cases, 61.9%) most prevailing. Wild game ungulates may become infected by means of direct and indirect contacts with diseased domestic animals or from the environment. Presence of only atypical mycobacteria in the examined animals documents a positive state concerning mycobacterioses in the Czech Republic. On the other hand, it is clear that wil
