| - The experiment follows a series of experiments conducted in 1987 - 1989 when the varieties Karin and Kamyk (late variety with deep dormancy) were compared. The production of ethylene was studied and also the levels of indolyl-3-acetic acid after applying two doses of nitrogen fertilisation and two concentrations of 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (Flordimex) and paclobutrazol (Cultar) to the stand in mid-July, i.e. at the beginning of intensive growth (Fišerová et al. 1994). In the mid-period of intensive growth the tubers produced maximal levels of ethylene, which increased after the application of Flordimex and Cultar. With approaching harvest the production of ethylene in tubers decreased, in Karin more than Kamyk. The level of auxins was the highest at the beginning of the period of intensive growth and towards harvest it decreased. Both Flordimex and Cultar increased the level of auxins.
