Description	The root system development is compared of a root system of oak from sowing and planting on sites affected by water (floodplain forest). Stands were compared of an above-ground parts reaching a height of 1, 2, 3 and 5 m. Manually (archaeological method),38 trees were lift up from sowing and 26 trees from planting. Some 15 parameters of the root system were studied viz. in relation to soil horizons. Differences in the architecture of a root system were not found; trees both from sowing and planting created a dominant pseudo-leg root system and a typical taproot system was an exception. Differences were not found in the depth of rooting, depth of creation and number of pseudo-legs, diameter and vertical distribution of horizontal roots. Oak trees from planting show the larger diameter of positively geotropicly growing pseudo-legs while oak trees from sowing show larger number of horizontally growing roots.
